Kids Camp:  High School Sponsored and Ran.

Girls:  We will Contact Coach Ken Lowe

Boys:  We will Contact Matt Wells-Dan Mckibben-Chris Rolph

Secondary Camp Pending for late Fall 2008.

Team Structure:

Coaching:  Two Teams - One Coach:  Head Coach will be selected by WJAA Basketball.  This will promote ONE voice and clear direction for that AGE Group.  Our Goal for Williamsburg Basketball is to have each of our players learn the same skill sets as their fellow classmates throughout their playing years, and leading them into being teammates at the Jr. High level.  Our goal is to not have more than 7 players per team, when possible.  Considerations will be given when possible.  More Teams create better results for player development.  This will also help alleviate some of the infighting that has gone in the past within or organization and that has been seen in other communities.  Team Selection will still follow CBYBA mandates.

Example:

4th Grade Girls have 13 Girls Sign Up.  There will be two teams 6 and 7 per team respectively.  This Group will practice together under one Head Coach.   There will be Three Assistant Coaches (preferably).  One of those Assistant Coaches will take the Second Team and Coach them on Saturdays following the same philosophies and structure.

Select Basketball League:

Players:   Teams will have to participate in WJAA sponsored CBYBA league and play under CBYBA league structure.

WJAA Sponsored COMPETITIVE league on a try out or selection basis, Eligible players must participate within CBYBA and WJAA.  WJAA will then sponsor a competitive team per grade group and gender.  Practice time will be considered for each team that meets this guideline.

Competitive team will be coached by the Grade Specific Head Coach.  Select team will be open for try out to any player that participates within that age group.  A team cannot have more than 12 players participate.  Playing time will be mandated by the Head Coach.  There is no commitment to playing time for any member of these teams.  Not all kids that participate within WJAA will be on this SELECT team as this is an Athletic League to promote development.  It is the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation and be willing to travel to multiple sites for those teams.  These teams will ONLY include those players within WJAA to be sponsored by WJAA and be allowed Practice Times.

Fees will increase for those teams (players) that will participate on said Select Team.  Fees will be determined at a later date depending on the cost structure of select leagues. This fee will be determined by WJAA for those participating players.  Suggestion is for a $20 increase for each player, depending on the league Cost.

Basketball Philosophies:

Our goals for our WJAA Basketball program is to develop our players into a system that will allow for them to grow and be prepared to step into our Jr. and Sr. high programs.  A philosophy of playing styles will be implemented for all Volunteer Coaches so that all of the WJAA players develop at the same rate with the same core fundamentals.

Offense:

Very basic Offenses should be utilized.  Remember at an early Age “Less is sometimes More.”  We will work with our Jr. and Sr. level coaches to develop a program atmosphere.  We will learn and apply playing styles based on Program goals.  This will be discussed and taught during WJAA Coaching Clinic to be held prior to the season.

Defense:  “Too Many People Overvalue what they are not, and UNDERVALUE what they are.”  Malcolm Forbes.

This is a perfect example of how many youth coaches view things when it comes to defense. It has been stated by many through the years that it is too difficult or risky for our teams to play Man to Man defense because inevitably there are always limiting factors (team size, player abilities, etc.).  The point is, as an organization WJAA will be following the lead of many Leagues outside of CBYBA and implementing Man to Man Defense 100% of the time, allowing for Zone Press for the ages groups and times that it is appropriate.  OUR GOAL IS NOT FOR THE NOW, BUT THE FUTURE.  Our goal should be for our kids to have the skills sets and understanding of how Man to Man defense should work and operate.  This Philosophy will be strictly enforced and expected by all Volunteer Coaches.  CBYBA, being the exception, most youth leagues require all teams to play a Man to Man defense at all times.  Our primary league does not, but WE WILL.   We are focused on short term sacrifice, for LONG TERM GROWTH.
